North Safari Sapporo is a unique safari park in Sapporo where visitors can experience animals at close range. The park is divided into three main areas: North Safari Sapporo, where guests can interact with animals; the Dangerous Forest, where dangerous animals can be observed from remarkably close distances; and North Safari Adventure, which offers a variety of seasonal outdoor activities.
One of the highlights of North Safari Sapporo is the opportunity to interact with animals that are not commonly available for close encounters at other zoos. Depending on the area and activity, visitors can meet harbor seals, meerkats, Ezo red foxes, Ezo raccoon dogs, reindeer, two-toed sloths, and South American coatis.
The park also offers thrilling feeding experiences with larger predators. Visitors can feed African lions and Bengal tigers from the other side of a metal barrier, allowing them to experience the animals’ impressive presence at close range.
Another unusual activity is “lion fishing,” in which visitors use a fishing rod through an opening in the roof of the lion enclosure to offer food to the lions below.
The Dangerous Forest is a dedicated area for visitors seeking a more adventurous experience. Entry to the dangerous zone requires visitors to sign an agreement before entering.
Inside, guests can pass extremely close to animals such as Asian water monitors, Indian crested porcupines, and Burmese pythons. The area also features a tank filled with piranhas and a narrow bridge positioned above a crocodile enclosure, creating a thrilling experience for adventurous visitors.
The Dangerous Forest also houses approximately 25 species of birds of prey, including owls, hawks, and condors. Rather than being viewed only from behind conventional barriers, these impressive birds can be observed from unusually close distances.
Other experiences include the “Forest Fishing Pond,” where visitors use fishing rods suspended from the ceiling to feed a Japanese black bear, as well as feeding experiences with Bengal tigers.
North Safari Adventure offers a range of outdoor activities designed to add an adventurous element to a visit. Activities include jungle exploration in an amphibious vehicle, rides on the tracked DTV Shredder, and Segway experiences.
During summer, the park opens Jurassic Land, a dinosaur-themed attraction designed to recreate a prehistoric forest inhabited by large robotic dinosaurs.
Visitors explore the area in an automatically guided cart, traveling through a landscape filled with life-sized dinosaur figures for a playful prehistoric adventure.
When the area is covered in snow, North Safari Adventure transforms into a winter playground. Seasonal activities include Husky dog sledding, snowmobiling, and snow banana boats.
These activities offer a different way to experience the snowy landscapes of Hokkaido while adding plenty of excitement to a winter visit.
