Ishizuchi, the highest mountain in western Japan, this 27-km route winds along a ridge between 1,300 and 1,700 meters above sea level.
On a clear day, you can see not only the Ishizuchi mountain range but also Tosa Bay in a series of dynamic views.
The route also offers a variety of views unique to the mountainous area, such as azaleas and rhododendrons in spring, fresh greenery in summer, and magnificent autumn foliage in fall, with foggy ice starting to form around November.
The area attracted attention as the location for a TV commercial.
The 27-km long paved forest road from the exit of the old Kanpu Tunnel on the Kochi Prefecture side to the end of the Ishizuchi Skyline is nicknamed “UFO Line” or “Kamegamori Forest Road” because of frequent sightings of UFOs and unidentified flying objects.
The official name of the road is Ino Town Road, Kagemori Line. The western side of the road is on the Ehime Prefecture side.
Panoramic view from the top of the mountain
The road runs at a high elevation, making it relatively easy to enjoy mountain climbing.
Ibuki, the easiest of the Ishizuchi Mountains, takes only a few minutes to reach the summit of the 1502-meter-high mountain.
The view from the summit is outstanding, offering a panoramic view of the Ishizuchi mountain range, including Ishizuchi, Tsutsukami, Kanegamori, and Nishikuromori.
Jiningo no Mashira (Head of Jiningo), which is 1,701 meters above sea level, can be reached in about 20 minutes on foot with a 100-meter difference in elevation from the parking space to the summit.
From the summit, a 360-degree view can be enjoyed.
The UFO line (UFO line) is a one-lane forest road, so drive slowly and be careful of oncoming traffic. There are many shelters.
The road is closed during the winter season.
Closed in winter from the end of November to the beginning of April
