Zuiganji Temple was built with the best of Momoyama-style architecture.
Founded by Jikaku Daishi Ennin in 828, the temple was rebuilt by Date Masamune in 1609 and renamed Zuigan-ji Temple. It is the family temple of the Date family.
Masamune invited 130 master craftsmen to complete the building, which is a masterpiece of Momoyama-style architecture and took five years to complete.
The main hall and the kori are designated as national treasures.
In the main hall, visitors can see gorgeous fusuma paintings and sculptures.
The Treasure House houses and exhibits the treasures of Zuiganji Temple, such as the paintings on the walls of the main hall, which are designated as National Important Cultural Properties.
