Enoshima Iwaya

This cave is located at the end of Enoshima, one of the scenic spots on the Shonan Coast, which is also a tourist destination. The cave, which was formed by erosion by waves, is said to be the birthplace of the Enoshima Benzaiten faith.

It is said to be the place where Kobo Daishi and Nichiren Shonin practiced asceticism and where Minamoto no Yoritomo prayed for the conquest of Oshu.

Inside the present cave, there are two rockhouses, the First and Second Iwaya, which can be visited with sound and lighting to create a mysterious atmosphere.

It is located on Enoshima Island, along the cliffs from the marine blue waters of the Pacific Ocean at Wakanigafuchi.
