Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse

The Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse is a cultural and commercial facility built in the red brick warehouse by the Meiji government.
Building No. 1 is a cultural facility with exhibition space on the second floor and a hall on the third floor, and Building No. 2 is a commercial facility with 40 stores and restaurants.

The surrounding area has been developed as “Red Brick Park” with a plaza and park, and is a representative tourist facility of the Minato Mirai district. The area is illuminated at night.

The Port of Yokohama, which opened in 1859, needed to be upgraded to a modern port, and the Meiji government built this building as the Yokohama Customs Shinko Quay (bonded) warehouse.
Building No. 2 was completed in 1911, and Building No. 1 in 1913.

The building is a historical landmark, with its structure of steel and bricks beautifully combined using the most advanced technology of the time.

Both buildings were originally the same size, but Building No. 1 was damaged in the Great Kanto Earthquake and became half the size of Building No. 2. It has been used many times as a location for TV dramas and movies.
