Oigawa Railway has two railroad lines: the Oigawa Main Line, where steam locomotives (SL) run, and the Igawa Line “Southern Alps Aputo Line,” known as the only apt-lack railroad in Japan.
In addition to regular trains, the SL trains, the apt-lack trains, and Thomas trains are in operation. The SL trains, in particular, were the first in Japan to start operating again in 1976, and still run more than 300 days a year. It is the only railroad in Japan that operates SL trains more than 300 days a year.
On the Oigawa Line, there are rolling stock that came from major private railways, such as former Kintetsu limited express trains and former Nankai express trains, all of which are very tasteful. They are all very tasteful. It is also called a “moving railroad museum” among railroad fans, and is very popular among them.
In addition, the SL trains (Kawaneji-go) that operate on the Oigawa Main Line use old passenger cars, and because of the nostalgic scenery along the line, they are often used for location shooting for dramas and movies set in the prewar and wartime periods of World War II.
The “Thomas the Tank Engine”, modeled after Thomas, the main character in the animated TV series “Thomas the Tank Engine”, runs between Shinkanaya and Senzu Stations, mainly during the summer vacation period.
The Igawa Line (Southern Alps Aputo Line) runs from Senkashira Station to Igawa Station, and is Japan’s only railroad line with an apt-type electric locomotive.
There are also many attractions such as Oku-Oi Lake Station, which has become a hot topic on SNS for its scenery that seems to float on the lake, and the Sekinosawa Railway Bridge, which boasts the highest railroad height above the riverbed in Japan.
Both the Oigawa Main Line and the Igawa Line are railroad lines that everyone, not just railroad fans, should ride at least once.
