White Rabbit Shrine

A sacred place for cute white rabbits and lovers

Located in the setting of the myth “Inaba no Shirohagi (White Hare of Inaba),” Shirohagi Shrine is dedicated to the White Hare God. The shrine is said to be beneficial for curing skin diseases and for matchmaking, and there is also a “Goshimiaraike Pond” where the hare is said to have washed its body. The shrine plexus is designated as a natural monument, and the adjacent roadside station, “Mythological Village White Rabbit,” is also a spot of interest.

The Myth of the White Rabbit that Brought Us Together

The White Rabbit God (rabbit god) is the White Rabbit of Inaba, who appears in Japanese mythology in the Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters). Since he arranged the marriage between Princess Yagami of Inaba and Okuninushi no Mikoto, he is believed to be a god who brings people together, bringing them closer together in unfulfilled love and deepening their friendship with certain people.

As the birthplace of Japan’s first love story, the shrine is recognized as a “holy place for lovers,” and the shrine grounds are lined with stone statues of cute white rabbits. At the shrine office, ema (votive picture tablet) and amulets with a white rabbit motif are available for purchase, and it is believed that your wish will come true if you place the “Knotting Stone” on your wish.
