Iriomote Island

A subtropical jungle island full of unique flora and fauna!

It is the second largest island in Okinawa Prefecture after Okinawa Island, and is mostly covered with subtropical jungle.

Three mountains, Mt. Komi, Mt. Tedou, and Mt. Gozadake, are the highest in the Ryukyu Islands, and are home to many animals with their own unique ecosystems, including the Iriomote wildcat, a natural treasure in its natural surroundings. For this reason, it is also called the “Galapagos of the East.

In Iriomote Island, tours to experience and observe the jungle by kayaking and trekking are gaining popularity.

In addition, tours by pleasure boat or canoe are offered at the Nakama River with its vast mangrove forest and the Urauchi River with its mysterious waterfalls.

In addition, snorkeling and diving can be enjoyed at Hoshi-suna beach, where star-shaped sands form the beach.

The area around Ohara is dotted with natural treasures such as the Saxifragaceae tree colony in Komi.
