Mission Beach

A Secluded American-Style Beach Away from the Resort Crowds

Mission Beach is located on the northern coast of Onna Village on the west coast of Okinawa Island. Surrounded by rocky shores and lined with casuarina trees, this secluded beach offers a more relaxed atmosphere than Okinawa’s larger and busier resort beaches.

Unlike the highly developed beaches that attract large numbers of tourists, Mission Beach has a distinctive American-style atmosphere. A blue mobile food truck, a white-walled beach house, and a white wooden deck give the beach a nostalgic, laid-back character. The picturesque setting has also made it a popular location for filming movies and television commercials.

A Hidden Beach with a Distinctive Character

The name “Mission Beach” reflects the beach’s history. It was originally a private beach associated with a church located on the hill overlooking the shore, and was later opened to the public. Because the beach is hidden from National Route 58, it retains a secluded atmosphere that is easy to miss when driving along the main road.

The atmosphere here is quite different from Okinawa’s most famous family beaches. The beach is particularly popular with international visitors and couples looking for a stylish and quieter seaside escape. Its relatively secluded setting makes it a good choice for travelers who want to enjoy Okinawa’s tropical coastline without the bustle of a large resort.

Clear Water and Marine Activities

The beach is surrounded by clear blue water and offers a variety of ways to enjoy the sea. Visitors can take part in marine activities or simply relax on the sand and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Barbecues are also available, making Mission Beach a pleasant place to spend several hours by the ocean. Rather than being a beach designed solely for sightseeing, it has a relaxed atmosphere where visitors can enjoy the sea at their own pace.

A Stylish Hideaway on Okinawa’s West Coast

With its rocky coastline, casuarina trees, retro American-style facilities, and beautiful clear water, Mission Beach has a character all its own. It is a refreshing alternative to Okinawa’s larger resort beaches and a good place to escape the crowds.

For travelers looking for a quiet, photogenic beach with a distinctive American-style atmosphere, Mission Beach offers a memorable seaside experience on the west coast of Okinawa Island.
