Miyara-dunchi, also called Meelayaradunuji, is a magnificent red-tile-roofed samurai residence built in 1819 by Toen Pechin Miyara.
It is also the only remaining relic of the Dennouchi structure in Okinawa.
There is also a Kyoto-style karesansui (dry landscape) garden with huge limestone stones.
This garden is said to have been created by Shiroma Chikan-unjo, a representative gardener of Shuri.
The building is designated as a national important cultural property and the garden as a national place of scenic beauty.
