AQUAIGNIS is a spacious hot spring resort surrounded by beautiful natural scenery in Komono, Mie Prefecture. Covering approximately 49,000 square meters, the complex brings together the pleasures of relaxation and fine dining. Its facilities include Kataoka Onsen, a natural hot spring that flows directly from its source, accommodation buildings, and secluded private lodgings, alongside exceptional sweets, freshly baked bread, and cuisine created by some of Japan’s leading chefs.
Kataoka Onsen uses 100% natural hot spring water directly from its source, without adding water, heating it artificially, or circulating and reusing it. The spring water rises from a depth of approximately 1,200 meters and flows at an impressive rate of 780 liters per minute. Its temperature is adjusted naturally through the flow system to reach approximately 42°C at the bath outlets.
The same generous supply of natural spring water is even used for the showers. The water is classified as a simple alkaline hot spring, known for its soft, smooth texture that leaves the skin feeling silky. A faint sulfurous aroma adds to the authentic atmosphere of bathing in a natural hot spring.
The outdoor baths offer a particularly atmospheric experience. As you soak in the warm water, you can gaze at a beautifully illuminated bamboo grove and enjoy the tranquil Japanese ambiance. The combination of natural hot spring water, softly glowing lights, and lush greenery makes this an inviting place to unwind.
AQUAIGNIS also places a strong emphasis on food. Strawberry greenhouses and vegetable fields are located within the grounds, allowing visitors to enjoy seasonal produce harvested on-site. The resort’s dining experiences range from sweets and artisan bread to Italian and Japanese cuisine, bringing together celebrated culinary talents under one roof.
Renowned Japanese pastry chef Hironobu Tsujiguchi brings his creative approach to desserts and stone-oven-baked bread. His sweets combine refined techniques with carefully selected ingredients, offering visitors an opportunity to enjoy exceptional patisserie in a relaxing resort setting.
Masayuki Okuda, an internationally acclaimed Italian chef, contributes distinctive cuisine that highlights the natural flavors of seasonal ingredients. His culinary philosophy complements AQUAIGNIS’s focus on the connection between food, nature, and well-being.
The resort also features Japanese cuisine by Masahiro Kasahara, a celebrated chef known for his popular restaurant, where reservations can be difficult to secure. His cooking showcases the depth and appeal of traditional Japanese flavors through carefully prepared dishes.
AQUAIGNIS combines natural hot springs, comfortable accommodation, beautiful surroundings, and outstanding cuisine in one destination. Whether you visit for a relaxing day trip or stay overnight to enjoy the resort at a leisurely pace, it offers a memorable way to experience the restorative pleasures of Japanese hot springs and the country’s rich food culture.
