Choshi Port Tower is a landmark in Kawaguchi-cho, Choshi City, Chiba Prefecture, and a symbol of the city’s thriving fishing and seafood industries. Located beside Choshi Fishing Port, the tower forms the central part of the Choshi Fisheries Port Center together with the neighboring seafood market complex, Wosse 21.
The tower was completed in June 1991 and officially opened on June 23 of the same year as part of Chiba Prefecture’s regional development program known as the Five-Year Hometown Chiba Plan. It is also a member of the All Japan Tower Association, and has become a popular sightseeing destination for visitors from both within and outside Chiba Prefecture.
Choshi Port Tower stands 57.7 meters high. Its steel structure is covered almost entirely with half-mirror glass, creating a distinctive modern appearance.
The tower’s twin-tower design gives it an elegant silhouette that can be recognized from a distance. Its reflective glass surface blends beautifully with the surrounding harbor scenery, changing in appearance according to the weather and the light throughout the day.
The main observation deck is located on the 4th floor, approximately 46.95 meters above ground level. After taking the elevator to the top, visitors can enjoy a sweeping 360-degree panoramic view.
Directly below, Choshi Fishing Port spreads out along the waterfront. Depending on the time of day, visitors may see fishing boats entering and leaving the harbor, as well as the lively scenes associated with the landing of freshly caught seafood.
On exceptionally clear days, the view extends far beyond Choshi. Mount Tsukuba and even Mount Fuji may be visible in the distance. The combination of the vast Pacific Ocean, the working fishing port, and the surrounding landscape gives visitors a vivid impression of Choshi as a traditional port city.

The 3rd floor serves mainly as an observation lobby and is located approximately 43.05 meters above ground level. Visitors can enjoy another perspective of Choshi Fishing Port and the surrounding waterfront from this level.
Although it is lower than the main observation deck, the lobby provides a different angle from which to appreciate the harbor and the constantly changing activities of the port.
Coin-operated telescopes are available on the observation deck, allowing visitors to take a closer look at distant landmarks and scenery.
The floor previously included a café called Café de Manbo. Although the café is currently closed, it once provided a relaxing place where visitors could enjoy refreshments while taking in the panoramic views.
One of the attractions of Choshi Port Tower is its connection to the neighboring Wosse 21 seafood market by an elevated passageway.
Wosse 21 is a seafood direct-sales center where visitors can shop for fresh local seafood, processed seafood products, and other specialties from Choshi.
This makes it easy to combine sightseeing and local food in a single visit. Travelers can first enjoy the panoramic scenery from Choshi Port Tower and then head directly to Wosse 21 to discover the flavors of the local fishing industry.

On New Year’s Day, the tower opens specially from 6:00 a.m., allowing visitors to watch the first sunrise of the year from the observation deck.
Because this is a particularly popular occasion, numbered tickets may be distributed when visitor numbers are high.
New Year’s celebrations may include traditional Japanese taiko drum performances and balloon releases, creating a festive atmosphere for visitors beginning the year in Choshi.
Other activities, such as local craft experiences and special seasonal exhibitions, are also held at various times during the year. The exact program changes according to the season and event schedule.
