Gion Festival

The Gion Festival is a festival that began about 1,100 years ago as a prayer to ward off an epidemic. The festival lasts about one month. The climax of the festival is the Yamaboko procession on the 17th and 24th. Both floats are decorated with beautiful tapestries, spelling weaving, Nishijin brocade, and other art works. On the 17th, there will be paid seats for spectators to watch the procession of Yamaboko floats at their best.
