Located northeast of Noboribetsu Onsen Hot Spring Resort, Noboribetsu Jigokudani (Noboribetsu Hell Valley) is the site of a 450-meter long explosive crater created by the eruption of Mt.
Numerous fumaroles are located on the surface along the valley, and gas and hot springs are gushing out.
The name “Jigokudani” comes from the bubbling and boiling scenery.
A variety of hot springs gush out from here at a rate of 10,000 tons per day, supplying hot water to hotels and inns in the hot spring resort area.
There is a walking trail for sightseeing, and you can enjoy the bizarre sight in about 10 to 15 minutes.
At night, the trail is illuminated as "Oni-no-Hi no Michi" (path of devil's fire).
