With its long stretch of cherry trees and peaceful, green residential surroundings, it is recognized as one of the notable cherry blossom viewing spots in Japan and attracts both local residents and visitors from outside the area.

The history of Tokiwadaira Sakura Street is closely connected with the development of Tokiwadaira Housing Estate. Construction of the housing development began in 1957 in the Kanegasaku area of northeastern Matsudo under the Japan Housing Corporation, the predecessor of today’s housing development organization.
At that time, the area was crossed mainly by narrow farm roads only about 2 to 4 meters wide. As the new housing development grew, it became necessary to construct wider roads capable of handling increased traffic.
As part of this development, the road that would become Tokiwadaira Sakura Street was created, and Somei Yoshino cherry trees were planted along the roadside. Over the decades, these trees have grown into the impressive avenue seen today.
The Japan Housing Corporation’s development project was completed in July 1962, after which the newly developed roads were transferred to Matsudo City.
Since then, Tokiwadaira Sakura Street has developed together with Tokiwadaira Housing Estate. As the cherry trees matured, the street gradually became an important local landmark and a symbol of the community.
