Atami is a hot spring resort that has been famous throughout Japan since the Edo period (1603-1868) as the "hot spring" of Tokugawa Ieyasu. It is also dotted with tourist attractions such as Raiku Shrine, a power spot, and Kiunkaku, a masterpiece of Taisho architecture.
In addition to the Atami Onsen hot springs, Atami is home to the resort island of Hatsushima, a 30-minute high-speed boat ride from Atami Port, Atami Castle, and the Akao Herb and Rose Garden, as well as the Atami Museum of Treasures, the Atami Trick Art Labyrinth Museum, the Atami Plum Garden, Raikyu Shrine, Izuyama Shrine, and the MOA Museum of Art, all popular tourist spots.
