Misato Shibazakura Park

A Spectacular Hill Covered in Spring Moss Phlox

Misato Shibazakura Park is a popular springtime attraction in Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture. Covering approximately 2.9 hectares, the park is home to around 260,000 moss phlox plants, which burst into bloom across the hills each spring.

The flowers are generally at their best from early April to early May, after the main cherry blossom season has passed. The colorful carpet of moss phlox spreading across the hills attracts many visitors who come to enjoy the vivid beauty of spring.

A Beautiful Floral Design Inspired by a Celestial Robe

At the heart of the park is the Shibazakura Hill. Its floral design is inspired by the image of the pink celestial robe accidentally left behind by Orihime, a legendary figure from Japanese folklore.

Red, white, and pink moss phlox are planted in sweeping bands that follow the contours of the hillside, creating flowing curves and swirling patterns.

Viewed from a distance, the countless small flowers come together to form a magnificent carpet of vivid color. The delicate fragrance of the moss phlox also drifts through the air, allowing visitors to experience the arrival of spring through all the senses.

A Colorful Spring Contrast of Moss Phlox and Rapeseed Flowers

At the foot of Shibazakura Hill is a field of bright yellow rapeseed flowers. The contrast between the pink and white moss phlox and the golden-yellow flowers creates one of the park’s most attractive spring scenes.

On clear days, the vivid flowers look particularly beautiful against the blue sky, making the park a popular destination for photography.

Visitors can also enjoy the peaceful scenery of the surrounding Japanese rural landscape, taking a leisurely walk while appreciating the changing colors of spring.

Misato Shibazakura Festival

The Misato Shibazakura Festival is held from approximately early April to early May, when the moss phlox is in bloom.

During the festival, the Shibazakura Market features stalls selling locally grown agricultural products and processed foods, along with restaurants and food trucks.

Visitors can sample local specialties while enjoying a variety of events held during the festival. It is an excellent opportunity to experience not only the flowers but also the local food and culture of the Misato area.

Misato Shibazakura Park is approximately 30 minutes from the Maebashi Interchange on the Kan-Etsu Expressway, or approximately 25 minutes from the Komayose Smart Interchange.
