Located on a small hill, the Grape and Grape Wine Institute is a town-run wine factory with an exterior reminiscent of an old medieval European castle.
It has developed its own varieties and produces mainly long-aged type wines with grapes rich in acidity.
It produces 20 products, including the internationally acclaimed brand “Tokachi Wine,” sparkling wine, and brandy.
The factory has an exhibition room introducing Tokachi wines, an underground aging room, a shopping area, a restaurant, a rooftop observation plaza, and a step-by-step tour of the wine-making process from brewing to bottling.
The rooftop observation plaza is a sunset spot with a magnificent panoramic view of the Tokachi Plain.
The inside of the castle is free to visit, and there is a wine tasting corner.
On the southern slope of the wine castle, there is a grape display garden with vines of "Seimai" and "Yamayuki," the only grape varieties in Ikeda Town.
