Chiba City Flower Art Museum

Enjoy Flowers Throughout the Four Seasons

Chiba City Flower Museum is located within Inage Seaside Park in Mihama Ward, Chiba City. Combining the character of a botanical garden with that of a museum, the facility offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy flowers and greenery throughout the year.

Approximately 48,000 plants representing around 1,600 varieties are grown across the indoor and outdoor areas. Seasonal flowers, tropical plants, gardens, and exhibitions provide a relaxing and educational experience for visitors of all ages.

About the Chiba City Flower Museum

The museum originally opened as the main pavilion of the 12th National Urban Greening Chiba Fair held in 1995. After the fair ended, it reopened in 1996 as a center for promoting greenery and environmental awareness in Chiba City.

The facility consists of a greenhouse, exhibition building, rest building, and outdoor gardens. Together, these spaces create an environment where visitors can appreciate plants from different climates as well as seasonal flowers native to Japan.

The Greenhouse

The impressive glass greenhouse rises approximately 23 meters high and provides an environment suitable for tropical and subtropical plants. Visitors can encounter exotic-looking species such as hibiscus, banyan trees, and banana plants.

The greenhouse has been designed so that plants can be viewed from different heights and angles, allowing visitors to appreciate the distinctive shapes, colors, and textures of tropical vegetation.

The Exhibition Building

The exhibition building features a flower garden showcasing plants according to the seasons, as well as a consultation area where visitors can receive gardening advice.

On the first floor, visitors can find a shop selling items such as potpourri and herbal tea, together with the “Flower Workshop,” a space that can also be reserved for private flower-themed activities and events.

The second floor includes a rooftop garden and a flower-themed experience café. A gallery is also available where local residents can exhibit their paintings, photographs, and other artworks, supporting community-based artistic activities.

Outdoor Gardens

The grounds feature four outdoor gardens, each offering a different seasonal atmosphere. The front garden is planted with annual flowers such as poppies, while the courtyard and side gardens feature a changing selection of seasonal plants.

The rear garden contains a rose garden, which becomes particularly attractive when the roses are in full bloom. The area attracts many visitors during the peak flowering season.

A bungalow is also located in the rear garden, providing a place where groups can have lunch even when the weather is rainy.

Recovery After the Great East Japan Earthquake

The Chiba City Flower Museum was temporarily closed following the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. It reopened in September of the same year.

Parts of the rose garden were gradually reopened after the earthquake, and the gardens have continued to recover and return to their former appearance.

Changes to the Museum’s Name

In 2013, Sanyo Media Co., Ltd. acquired the naming rights to the facility, and it became known as the Sanyo Media Flower Museum.

When the naming-rights agreement expired in April 2021, the facility returned to its current name, Chiba City Flower Museum.

Exhibitions and Events

Throughout the year, the museum presents displays featuring seasonal flowers and plants. Gardening consultations and workshops related to flowers and horticulture are also held.

These activities are part of the museum’s efforts to promote the idea of “living with flowers” and to strengthen the connection between local residents and the natural environment.

The museum has been designed with accessibility in mind. The building provides wheelchair-accessible restrooms, while steps and steep slopes have been minimized to create a more comfortable environment for visitors with mobility needs.

A Peaceful Place to Enjoy Flowers in Chiba

Chiba City Flower Museum offers a pleasant combination of flowers, gardens, art, education, and relaxation. With approximately 48,000 plants and a wide variety of indoor and outdoor displays, visitors can discover something different with each season.

The tropical greenhouse provides an escape into a warm, exotic environment, while the outdoor gardens showcase the changing beauty of flowers throughout the year. Exhibitions, gardening workshops, and community art activities also make the museum more than simply a place to view plants.

Located within Inage Seaside Park, the museum is easy to combine with a visit to the surrounding park and Tokyo Bay waterfront. It is a welcoming destination for families, garden enthusiasts, photography lovers, and anyone looking for a peaceful break surrounded by flowers and greenery.
