Keisei Rose Garden is a spectacular rose garden in Yachiyo City, Chiba Prefecture. Operated by Keisei Rose Gardening Co., Ltd., part of the Keisei Group, the garden is one of the largest of its kind in Japan and is especially popular with flower lovers, photographers, couples, and families.
The garden has also been designated as a “Lover’s Sanctuary”, making it a popular destination for couples as well as visitors looking to enjoy beautiful seasonal scenery.
Keisei Rose Garden was established in 1959 with the goal of creating roses that could be proudly presented to the world while helping to develop and promote rose culture in Japan.
Keisei Rose Gardening has worked extensively on rose breeding and has received numerous awards at rose competitions in Japan and abroad. Through these activities, the company has played an important role in introducing and developing rose culture in Japan.
In 1999, the facility was renovated and expanded into a comprehensive garden destination centered around the rose garden, with a restaurant, garden center, and other facilities.
A stone-oven bakery was added in 2010, further expanding the range of experiences available to visitors.
The garden covers approximately 30,000 square meters and is home to more than 10,000 rose plants representing around 1,600 varieties. During the flowering seasons, the grounds are filled with an impressive variety of colors, forms, and fragrances.
One of the garden’s distinctive attractions is its collaboration with the famous Japanese manga “The Rose of Versailles.”
In areas such as the “Rose of Versailles Terrace” and “Rose of Versailles Street,” visitors can see roses named after or inspired by characters from the manga. In particular, six rose varieties associated with “The Rose of Versailles” are among the highlights for fans of the series.
Special events have also featured talks by manga creator Riyoko Ikeda and performers associated with the Takarazuka Revue.
The garden includes a French-style formal garden featuring approximately 400 modern rose plants.
Formal gardens are characterized by geometric designs based on straight lines, circles, and symmetry. At Keisei Rose Garden, climbing roses are used to create impressive three-dimensional displays, adding height and depth to the carefully arranged landscape.
In contrast, the English-style naturalistic garden is designed to create a more relaxed and natural landscape.
Here, visitors can enjoy species roses, seasonal flowers, aquatic plants, and wetland vegetation. A walk around the pond provides a peaceful opportunity to appreciate the plants and surrounding scenery away from the more formal garden areas.
From approximately May to June, the garden reaches one of its most spectacular periods as spring roses bloom throughout the grounds. The annual Rose Festival is held during this season, attracting many rose enthusiasts and visitors.
From approximately October to November, autumn roses provide another opportunity to enjoy the garden. The Autumn Fair takes place during this period, offering visitors a different atmosphere from the spring season.
Because roses change in appearance according to the season, visiting at different times of year can provide very different experiences.
Although roses are the main attraction, Keisei Rose Garden also features a wide variety of other flowers, trees, and plants throughout the year.
In spring, cherry blossoms and the unusual handkerchief tree are among the highlights. The handkerchief tree is still relatively uncommon in Japan, and its distinctive white bracts attract particular attention around Golden Week.

April: Purple flowering vegetables, Chinese milk vetch, Japanese kerria, and other seasonal plants

Yumi’s Gazebo is one of the garden’s most recognizable landmarks. This Western-style gazebo was designed under the direction of bridal designer Yumi Katsura.
The gazebo is used for various events, including “Lover’s Sanctuary Rose Weddings.” Its romantic setting makes it particularly popular with couples and wedding-related events.
The large greenhouse provides a warm environment for tropical plants throughout the year. Visitors can see plants such as bananas and enjoy a different type of botanical landscape from the outdoor gardens.
The greenhouse is an appealing place to relax while discovering plants that would not normally thrive in the outdoor environment of Chiba.
The garden includes a Rose Shop offering rose-related products and souvenirs, as well as a Garden Center stocked with gardening supplies and plants.
Visitors interested in growing roses at home can also purchase roses and gardening products. The garden offers online sales as well, making it possible for customers who live farther away to purchase roses and related products.
Several dining and refreshment options are available within the garden. One of the highlights is Sunbretta, a stone-oven bakery where visitors can enjoy freshly baked bread.
Taking a break for a meal or coffee provides a pleasant way to extend a visit after exploring the extensive gardens.
The garden center regularly holds special sales and seasonal promotions. Events include the Monday Flower Market, Pot Day, and Garden Day, offering opportunities for gardening enthusiasts to find plants and gardening goods.
Keisei Rose Garden is approximately a 15-minute walk from Yachiyo-Midorigaoka Station on the Toyo Rapid Railway Line.
Visitors can also use Toyo Bus services, including routes connecting Yachiyodai and Yachiyo-Chuo and the Yachiyodai Medical Center area, and get off at the Keisei Rose Garden bus stop.
From the Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway Bayshore Route or the Chiba-Kita Interchange on the Higashi-Kanto Expressway, take National Route 16 toward Yachiyo. The garden is approximately 9 kilometers from the interchange area.
A large parking area is available, with space for approximately 700 passenger vehicles. Parking is free.
