Ishirozaki

Located at the southernmost tip of the Izu Peninsula, this cape is a popular tourist destination for its rugged coastal scenery, with sheer cliffs 100 meters high.

At the tip of the cape stands Ishirorozaki Lighthouse, built by the Englishman Blanton in 1871, and beyond it is Ishimuro Shrine, the guardian deity of sailors.

At the end of the promontory is the Kumano Shrine, the guardian deity of sailors.

The cape juts out into the Pacific Ocean, facing Suruga Bay and the Sea of Enshu to the west and the Sea of Sagami to the east.

It is also the boundary between the Pacific Ocean and the Philippine Sea, with the Sagaminada side facing the Pacific Ocean and the Suruga Bay side facing the Philippine Sea.

The cliffs offer a magnificent panoramic view of Minokake Iwa to the east, Kamikomotojima to the southeast, and the seven Izu islands of Oshima, Niijima, Miyakejima, and Mikurajima.

The geology of the area consists of lava flows erupted from underwater volcanoes, which are believed to have erupted at the bottom of the shallow sea about 7 million years ago.

The climate is warm in winter, with temperatures rarely falling below freezing. Snow falls only once a year. Summer temperatures are cooler than in other parts of the country, and do not exceed 35°C, as in Shizuoka and Ajiro (Atami City).

Ishirorozaki Fishing Port, located east of the cape, is a well-known fishing spot and is also used as a departure and arrival point for sightseeing boats that offer scenic tours of Ishirorozaki.

Ishirorozaki excursion boat

The dynamic scenic spot of Ishirorozaki can be enjoyed from the sea.

The boat tours the steep cliffs, white lighthouse, Daikonjima Island inhabited by wild monkeys (which can be seen from the boat), Oku-Ishirorozaki, and Hirizohama.

The views from the boat are spectacular, and the tour of the capes is a wonderful way to appreciate the magnificent beauty of nature.
