Snow Park Oze Tokura

A Unique Ski Resort for Terrain and Powder Snow

Snow Park Oze Tokura is a ski resort located in Katashina Village, Tone District, Gunma Prefecture. It is one of the historic ski resorts in the Oze and Numata area and is located at the northernmost point of the region.

The resort is known for its high-quality powder snow and distinctive course layouts that make use of the mountain’s natural terrain. It has earned strong support from both skiers and snowboarders.

Snowboarding has been permitted throughout the resort since an early stage, and today the resort places particular emphasis on its snow park facilities, attracting many visitors from the Tokyo metropolitan area. Daily maintenance also helps keep the slopes in good condition.

Nine Courses Featuring Natural Terrain

The ski area has nine courses catering to a wide range of ability levels, from beginners to advanced riders.

The approximately 2.2-kilometer Romance Course is designed for beginners but offers an unusually long distance, giving new skiers plenty of space to practice comfortably. Intermediate skiers can choose from courses such as the Panorama, Kamoshika, Junidaira, and Fujimi courses, which offer moderate gradients and enjoyable cruising.

For advanced skiers, courses such as the A Course, Dynamic Course, and Arayama Course feature ungroomed areas and natural changes in the terrain. In particular, the Arayama Course provides an exciting ride over naturally undulating terrain.

Areas associated with the resort’s former halfpipe also remain, preserving a sense of the area’s long-standing snow park culture.

A Snow Park that Encourages Creativity

One of the most distinctive features of Oze Tokura is the combination of natural terrain and snow park features, creating an experience that can feel almost like a winter attraction.

On the Romance Course, visitors can make use of steep, wall-like sections of terrain that resemble a halfpipe. This allows riders to enjoy the creative possibilities of natural terrain rather than simply following a conventional groomed slope.

The park includes features ranging from sizes suitable for beginners to more technical sections for advanced riders. Visitors can do more than simply cruise through the park: they can experiment with their own lines, jumps, and tricks, making each run a personal experience.

A Comfortable Environment for Beginners and Families

Dedicated beginner slopes and lesson areas are available, making the resort suitable for first-time visitors and families with children. The Kids Park includes sledding areas and slides, providing a welcoming introduction to playing in the snow.

The ski and snowboard schools also offer a range of lessons, from basic instruction for beginners to training for intermediate and advanced riders looking to improve their skills.

For visitors seeking a more serious powder experience, the resort also offers GPG (Gelande Powder Guide) Tours, which use lift access to reach designated backcountry areas around the resort.

Facilities and Services for a Comfortable Stay

The Oze Kogen Hotel, located next to the ski slopes, is also conveniently situated near the Gunma-side trailheads for entering the Oze area, including Hatomachi Pass and Oshimizu.

Because the hotel is located directly within the ski area, guests can start skiing almost immediately after getting up in the morning. After skiing, they can relax and warm up in the hotel’s large communal bath, making it convenient for visitors planning a longer winter stay.

Parking is free every day. The route from the interchange to the resort has relatively few steep slopes and mountain passes, making winter access comparatively comfortable.

The lifts are designed to operate reliably even in strong winds, and their stable operation is one of the resort’s appreciated features. Rental equipment also combines attractive design with functionality, making it easy for first-time visitors to get started.

Improved Access and a Long History

From the Numata Interchange of the Kan-Etsu Expressway, the resort is approximately 39 kilometers away via National Routes 120 and 401, taking around 60 minutes by car.

The former Shiisaka Pass, once considered a difficult section of the route, became easier to travel after the opening of a tunnel in 2013, significantly improving access to the area.

The resort opened in 1962 as Oze Tokura Ski Resort. It has since developed through changes in its name and management structure, becoming a long-established part of the area’s winter sports culture.

A Special Winter Experience in High-Quality Powder Snow

With its light, high-quality powder snow, creative terrain-based skiing and snowboarding, and extensive facilities, Snow Park Oze Tokura offers more than simply a place to ski down a mountain.

From beginners and families to experienced skiers and snowboarders, visitors can enjoy the snow in their own style. The combination of natural terrain, powder conditions, snow park features, and comfortable facilities makes Oze Tokura a distinctive winter destination in Gunma.
