About 70 stores line the street from around 6:00 a.m., selling seasonal foods such as dried saury, dried horse mackerel, dried squid, dried bonito, wakame seaweed, hijiki seaweed, parsley, rape blossoms, etc. The market is crowded with many people.
Katsuura's local delicacy, Katsuura tantanmen, is made with minced meat and onions, and is soy sauce-based with a generous amount of raayu (Chinese chili oil) added. It is served at many ramen stores and eateries in Katsuura City. A special map has been created, so ramen lovers are encouraged to make a trip to check out the different flavors.
