Jozankei Onsen is located in a beautiful valley covered with virgin forest, and is well known as the backcountry resort of Sapporo.
The bright red suspension bridge over the Toyohira River, which flows quietly through the hot spring resort, is the symbol of Jozankei.
From the suspension bridge, you can see “Kappa-fuchi,” an abyss with strange and steep rocks and stones, and “Futami Iwa,” which is derived from Futamiura (married couple’s rock) in Ise.
The nature trail “Futami Sadasan-no Michi” leads to a beautiful spot throughout the four seasons: wildflowers and murmuring snowmelt in spring, cool forest greenery in summer, autumn leaves in brocade, and a quiet winter shrouded in white silver.
On summer nights, the area between Futami Park and Futami Suspension Bridge is illuminated.
The Toyohira River has a gentle current, so you can enjoy the beauty of the lush forests and valleys while riding through the valley in a Canadian canoe or sap.
The deep green foliage and refreshing breezes in summer and the mountains' golden and vermilion autumn leaves in fall can be experienced up close from the water.
The average depth of the river is about 1 meter, so it is safe to jump into the river.
