JR Tower Observatory T38

A stylish observation deck with spectacular views of Sapporo

JR Tower Observatory T38 is located on the 38th floor of JR Tower, directly connected to JR Sapporo Station. Rising 160 meters above the ground, it is the highest observation deck in Hokkaido and offers sweeping 360-degree views across Sapporo and its surrounding landscapes.

Looking south, visitors can see the neatly arranged grid of central Sapporo, extending toward landmarks such as the Sapporo Dome. To the north, the horizon stretches beyond Ishikari Bay New Port. To the west are Hokkaido University and Mount Teine, while to the east the Ishikari River leads toward the sea and the forests of Nopporo. On clear days, distant mountains including Mount Yubari and Mount Ashibetsu can also be seen.

A Stylish Observation Space

From the sixth floor, a dedicated elevator takes visitors directly to the 38th floor. The observation area is designed as a stylish, comfortable space that can be explored by walking around the entire floor.

Artworks are displayed throughout the observation area, while careful attention has also been given to the soundscape. The result is a calm and sophisticated environment where visitors can enjoy the scenery without feeling rushed.

Café and Bar with a View

A café and bar provide an ideal place to take a break while enjoying the panorama. During the day, visitors can relax with a cappuccino or dessert while looking out over the city.

As evening approaches, the atmosphere becomes even more special. Enjoy a glass of wine or beer while watching Sapporo gradually transform from a city bathed in sunset light into a glittering sea of lights.

A Toilet with an Extraordinary View

At the northern corner of the observation floor is an unusual viewing restroom created around the concept of “enjoying an overwhelmingly open view all to yourself.”

The men’s restroom in particular is designed to allow visitors to pause and take in the expansive scenery, turning even an ordinary break into an unexpectedly memorable part of the visit.

JR Tower, a Landmark at Sapporo Station

JR Tower is a large station complex directly connected to JR Sapporo Station. In addition to the observation deck, the complex includes shopping facilities, a cinema, and a hotel with a hot-spring spa supplied by natural hot spring water drawn from underground.

JR Tower is the tallest building in Hokkaido. At the center of its main façade is the “Star Super Clock,” a distinctive large clock designed by Hokkaido-born sculptor and designer Takunobu Igarashi. The clock is powered by solar panels, adding another memorable feature to the station complex.

Enjoy Sapporo’s Night View with Ease

Sapporo is one of the cities selected as one of the New Three Great Night Views of Japan. JR Tower Observatory T38 is particularly convenient for enjoying this famous cityscape because it is directly connected to Sapporo Station.

The observation deck also provides a comfortable indoor setting, making it possible to enjoy the spectacular nighttime panorama even during Hokkaido’s cold winter months.

See Sapporo from 160 Meters Above the City

From the heart of Sapporo, JR Tower Observatory T38 offers a panoramic perspective that brings together the city’s orderly streets, rivers, mountains, coastline, and distant natural landscapes.

Visit during the day for expansive views across Hokkaido, return around sunset for the changing colors of the sky, or stay into the evening to watch Sapporo’s illuminated streets spread out beneath you. Its convenient location and sophisticated atmosphere make T38 an ideal stop for experiencing the city from above.
