The Maruyama Zoo is one of the largest zoos in Hokkaido, breeding about 160 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, and 700 other animals.
The zoo has a Tropical Animal Pavilion with lions and giraffes popular among children, a World Bear Pavilion exhibiting six species of bears, a Chimpanzee Pavilion with a 15-meter-high jungle gym for ecological exhibits, a house for Ezo deer and wolves where both people and animals can live comfortably, and a children’s zoo where visitors can touch sheep and goats. The site is also home to a chimpanzee house for ecological exhibits.
The Maruyama Children’s Land Kid Land, an amusement park with popular playground equipment such as the powerful Loop & Coke and Viking, is also located on the premises. As a facility where both adults and children can enjoy themselves all day long, it is crowded with families and young people on weekends and holidays.
