Ichinomiya Town is located in eastern Chiba Prefecture and belongs to Chosei District. Situated within the greater Tokyo metropolitan area, the town is relatively easy to reach from both Tokyo and Chiba City.

During Japan’s Warring States period, Ichinomiya Castle was constructed in the area. During the Edo period, the region was governed by the Wakisaka and Kano clans.
From the Meiji period through the early Showa period, Ichinomiya also became well known as a resort area with vacation villas. Its coastal environment and relatively easy access from Tokyo made it an attractive retreat.
1911 — Ichinomiya Beach was opened as a bathing resort, contributing to the development of the town as a seaside destination.
1930 — The embankment along the Ichinomiya River was breached, causing significant flooding and damage.

The modern administrative history of Ichinomiya developed through several changes.
In 1878, Ichinomiya-Hongo Village and Shinokui Village were established. In 1881, they were merged to form Ichinomiya-Hongo Village. The area was renamed Ichinomiya Town in 1890.
In 1953, Ichinomiya Town merged with Tonami Village, creating the municipality that forms present-day Ichinomiya Town.
