The market is located a minute’s walk from Otaru Station. Entering the small, retro entrance, you will find a long line of stores that are bustling with activity from 6:00 in the morning all the way to the back of the market.
Stores line both sides of a narrow, 200 meter long, 2 meter wide slope with an aisle in between,
The stores are lined with fish tanks filled with crabs, scallops, and other seafood, stores selling seafood such as salmon roe in soy sauce and extra-large dried hokke (hokke), and a restaurant that mainly serves kaisendon (a bowl of rice topped with seafood).
At the restaurants, visitors can enjoy bowls of rice topped with fresh seafood such as crab, sea urchin, and scallops, as well as set meals at reasonable prices.
The restaurant is directly managed by a fresh fish store, so it is reasonably priced and fresh.
You can enjoy a wide variety of kaisen donburi, including uni donburi (sea urchin bowl), ikura donburi (salmon roe bowl), tuna donburi (tuna bowl), or a gorgeous kaisen donburi that includes about 10 kinds of ingredients such as crab, scallop, salmon, and button lobster.
