Sanjusangendo is a Buddhist temple outside the precincts of Myohoin Temple and is lined with 1,001 statues of the Thousand-Armed Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. It is called Sanjusangendo because there are 33 pillars in the inner sanctuary. It is home to many national treasures and important cultural properties, including statues of the Thousand-Armed and Thousand-Eyed Kannon, standing statues of the Twenty-Eight Devas, and the Wind God and Thunder God.
